About Us
Who We Are
Smith’s Saddlery traces its roots to the early 1900s in Durban, where a family workshop grew into a trusted name in manufacturing and wholesaling leather goods. From the start, the focus was practical: make dependable tack and leather products that stand up to daily use. Over generations, the family refined lines for riders, farms, retailers and workshops while keeping production hands-on and quality-led. Today we continue that approach from our own premises, supplying customers nationwide with sensible ranges and straight answers, proudly using genuine South African leather across our lines. As a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor. We’re committed to building locally and responsibly, and it’s our day-to-day reliability that keeps customers returning
What We Do Today
We offer a complete Saddlery catalogue covering bridlework and bits, reins, martingales and breastplates, saddles, girths and surcingles, halters and leads, and stirrup accessories. Our Pets range includes collars, chains, harnesses and selected farm-animal halters and blinkers. Leather Attire covers men’s belts in multiple build styles, cultural leather items and made‑to‑order pieces. Shoe Grindery & Sundries keeps workshops and cobblers stocked with sheeting, glues, soles, tips, needles, nails and dyes. Across all categories, we focus on straightforward choices, standard sizes where applicable, and honest value.
How We Work
We keep the process simple: clear options, sensible lead times and consistent finishes. When you need something made in leather, share a brief or photos and we’ll recommend the right leather weight, hardware and stitching. We craft in-house so we can maintain quality from cutting and stitching through to finishing and packing. Wholesale and bulk customers get consolidated shipments and steady replenishment options. Whether you need a small run or a steady supply, we’ll set up a rhythm that makes sense for your schedule.
